Breath Patterns & Ratios
Different breathing ratios create different physiological and mental states. BreaQ uses breath patterns from 4:7:8 relaxation breathing to Fibonacci spiral expansion. Understanding these ratios helps you choose the right breathwork practice for your needs.
Common Breathing Ratios
- 4:7:8 — Inhale 4s, hold 7s, exhale 8s. Best for anxiety relief and sleep.
- 5:5:5:5 — Inhale 5s, hold 5s, exhale 5s, hold 5s. Coherent breathing for balance and focus.
- 4:4:4:4 — Box breathing. Equal parts inhale, hold, exhale, hold. Used by military and athletes.
- 4:6 — Inhale 4s, exhale 6s. Extended exhale for parasympathetic activation.
- Fibonacci — 1-1-2-3-5-8 ascending spiral. Progressive breath expansion.
- 12:12:12:12 — Deep harmonic breathing for advanced meditation.
